Working with Children in Sierra Leone

Chance to Play started working with Bassie Kargbo who moved to Canada for a better life but continues to help his community and families in Sierra Leone.

In 1996 during the civil war and has since transitioned to long-term development. Priority sectors today are health and nutrition, education and life skills, economic development and child protection. The Ebola crisis took a deadly toll on Sierra Leone, with nearly 4,000 deaths and years’ worth of setbacks in development.

Soccer and Development

Children are trapped by violence, child labour, civil conflict, & forced marriage. Soccer brings unity to communities.

Girl Power

Girls and sustainable development are closely linked. We empower girls and women with education and the power to play soccer.

Education

For many children, education opens doors to all the possibilities for their future. In turn, breaking the cycle of poverty.

Climate Change

Reducing our carbon foot print through recycling and reusing soccer gear eliminates thousands of waste to our landfills.

Building Sustainable Futures Together

Chance to Play team sponsorship in Sierra Leone starts with understanding what is preventing children from surviving and thriving in their community. We then work with the coaches, teachers and parents to bring the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. In Sierra Leone, Canadian sponsors and donors are bringing practical, life-changing help to children in real need. Your sponsorship will help support your teams soccer equipment such as uniforms, balls, cleats and coaching gear. We will also mentor and provide programs and skills training to the coaches and teaches. As well as covering tournament fees. Many teams want to play with others but simply not able to afford it.

We are encourage staying in school and continue their education. For many children and youth, school and soccer will keep them away from gangs and conflict in the community and country.
